Coaches Will:

  • Confer about weather cancellations 2 hours before scheduled practice start time and contact Program Manager, who will post any weather updates on the Rainout Hotline: 866-702-3970
  • Ensure that at least one coach has a copy of the field permit at practices at all times
  • Arrive at practice at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time
  • Start and finish all practices on time
  • Be prepared for emergencies:
    • Carry a charged cell phone
    • Have emergency contact list
    • Know the location of the first aid kit
    • Be aware of player allergies or medical conditions
  • Follow a positive coaching philosophy
  • Communicate with players in a clear, concise and consistent manner
  • Provide positive feedback and utilize teaching opportunities
  • Celebrate the achievements of all athletes
  • Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship
  • Create a fun and supportive atmosphere
  • Treat all officials, opposing coaches and fans with respect

The Brooklyn Crescents Lacrosse club is a volunteer-run organization.  The role of parents is important to the Crescents success

Parents Will:

  • Notify coaches of player’s absences before any practices or games
  • Ensure that player’s arrive and are picked up from practices and games on time
  • Wait until the end of practice or a game to speak to coaches; during practice and games, the coaches are focusing on coaching only
  • Treat coaches and officials with respect
  • DURING GAMES:
    • Watch games from the spectator side of the field, opposite from players’ bench
    • Express only positive comments and attitude

Athletes Will:

Before Practice and Games:

  • Eat a nutritious snack or meal before practices and games to ensure that they have the energy needed to participate in lacrosse
  • Bring water to every practice and game
  • Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled practice time and arrive 45 minutes before game start times
  • Put away all cell phones, MP3 players, etc. during practices (including waterbreaks)
  • Dress appropriately for lacrosse:
    • Yes:  Comfortable athletic wear: shorts, t-shirts, tights, sweatshirts, etc.
    • No: Jean, jewelry, boots or shoes other than sneakers
  • Bring their molded mouth guard and other required protective equipment to every practice and game
  • Wear their appropriate uniform (practice jersey and comfortable weather appropriate athletic wear for practice and full uniform for games)
  • Be dressed in full equipment and prepared to play at the START of practice

During Practice and Games:

  • Maintain a positive attitude:
    • No swearing
    • No  negativity: players will use positive feedback to encourage teammates
  • Stand during all drills unless otherwise instructed (no sitting in line)
  • Be attentive to coaches and teammates while they are speaking: if the coach is speaking, no one else is
  • Participate fully in all drills unless physically unable to do so
  • Jog on the whistle: NO WALKING!
  • Follow the coach’s schedule for water breaks
  • Respect all Crescents coaches, opposing team coaches, fans and officials
  • Accept official’s calls quietly even when the ruling is unfair

After Practice and Games:

  • Thank the officials, their opponents and their fans
  • Celebrate their successes and the successes of their teammates
  • Pick up all balls, cones, jerseys and goals at the end of each practice
  • Pick up all water bottles, trash, etc. at the end of every game in an effort to leave every field in excellent conditio
